Dale Thompson oral history, 1968.

In this interview, Dale Thompson discusses his personal history and shares his observations of the New York State sugar beet industry. Topics include: his youth on a livestock and sugar beet farm in South Dakota; his experiences as a fieldman with the Utah Idaho Sugar Company; his assessment of specific employees and growers associated with the Empire State Sugar Company; problems between the Finger Lakes Sugar Beet Growers Association and the management of Empire Sugar, including the harvest by farmers of poor quality, frozen beets; company efforts to improve public relations and provide migrant labor; his assessment of PepsiCo's sincerity in establishing a sugar beet machinery leasing program for farmers; and the use by Empire Sugar of county agricultural agents as liaisons between company fieldmen and farmers.
